The charism of the Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica of Fort Smith, AR, and the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas complement the Mission and Vision of Hesychia House of Prayer. We, as Catholic Women Religious, are delighted to minister together in order to serve all persons “seeking the holy” in solitude at Hesychia House of Prayer.
At the heart of St. Benedict (Founder of the Benedictine Sisters/Monks) and Venerable Catherine McAuley’s (Foundress of the Sisters of Mercy) teaching is a life dedicated to following Jesus by deep listening and finding God in all of creation. St. Benedict instructed his Monks and Sisters to live a lifetime commitment to Ora et Labora (prayer and work); Venerable Catherine McAuley encouraged her Sisters to a lifelong commitment to Contemplation-Action. The Sisters residing at Hesychia House of Prayer are steeped in deep listening to God in all of creation and in hands-on ministry to the people of God.
A significant part of both of their Charism is the hospitality which openly extends a welcome to all persons. This welcome respects the dignity of each person on their God journey. Animated by the Gospel we strive with zeal to extend the love and mercy of Jesus in order that one has the opportunity to “Seek the Holy” in solitude and peace. If you are interested in some spiritual accompaniment while staying at Hesychia, you may speak with one of the sisters to arrange a time.
